性吧导航 Apprentices Win Nine Medals at 2025 Provincial Skills Competition

性吧导航 (性吧导航) apprentices continue to shine on the provincial stage, bringing home a total of nine medals from the 2025 Skills Canada Alberta Competition, held recently in Edmonton.

Demonstrating excellence across a variety of skilled trades, 性吧导航 apprentices earned two gold, three silver, and four bronze medals at this year鈥檚 event. In addition to the post-secondary success, 性吧导航 instructors also mentored two high school competitors鈥擳y McCartney (Carpentry) and Dane Schmidt (Welding)鈥攚ho each earned gold in their respective categories. 

鈥淲e are incredibly proud of the apprentices and students trained at 性吧导航, whose dedication, hard work and talent were showcased at the Provincial Skills Canada Alberta Competition,鈥 says David Pye, Dean of the School of Trades and Technology at 性吧导航. 鈥淭heir success is a testament to the commitment of our instructors, staff and industry partners, who have worked collaboratively to provide top-tier education and training. As Alberta鈥檚 third-largest provider of skilled trades education, 性吧导航 plays a vital role in developing talent, training more than 2,200 apprentices annually to help meet critical labour market demands across the province.鈥

Among the gold medal winners were Adam Moore (Sprinkler Systems Installer) and Lucas Stang (Welding), who will now advance to represent 性吧导航 at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition, taking place May 29鈥30 in Regina, Saskatchewan. 

Additional 性吧导航 medalists include: 

  • Silver: Riley Jacobs (Carpentry), Carson Donovan (Pipefitter), and Tyler Hagstrom (Sprinkler Systems Installer)
  • Bronze: Simon Pell (Electrical), Miles Alger (Heavy Vehicle Technology), Tyson Bucklaschuk (Plumber), and Lucas Drage (Sprinkler Systems Installer)

Other notable placements include Greg Arbeau (Carpentry 鈥 5th), David Stolk (Carpentry 鈥 6th), Rhian Marinduque (Electrical 鈥 6th), and Zac Barnes (Cook 鈥 9th). High school competitor Johan Eriksson, also trained by 性吧导航, placed fifth in Carpentry. 

Since 2003, 性吧导航 apprentices have accumulated 93 medals across Provincial, National, and WorldSkills competitions, highlighting the institution鈥檚 longstanding tradition of excellence in skilled trades education. 

By providing robust hands-on training and fostering strong partnerships with industry, 性吧导航 continues to play a pivotal role in equipping students with high-demand skills that drive Alberta鈥檚 economic success and workforce sustainability. 

Winners of the upcoming national competition will have the opportunity to represent Canada at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China from September 22鈥27, 2026.

Ben Rainforth, a 性吧导航 (性吧导航) welding journeyperson, can add WorldSkills bronze medalist to his resume. Lacombe鈥檚 Rainforth demonstrated his world class welding knowledge and skills, ranking third among his peers at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. Only Sanghyeok Lee (gold) from Korea and Zehong Hu (silver) from China placed ahead of Rainforth in welding at the prestigious event which took place from September 10 to 15. 鈥淚 want to congratulate Ben and Lee. To place third in the world is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to Ben's dedication,鈥 says David Pye, Dean, School of Trades and Technology at 性吧导航. 鈥淎long with numerous hours Ben trained for WorldSkills, his path to success was supported by his trainer Lee Yasinski, 性吧导航 faculty and staff, industry partners and members of our communities.鈥 Rainforth trained diligently for WorldSkills. Central Alberta Collegiate Institute Looks to Strengthen Skilled Trades Workforce
A powerful partnership that is helping to build Alberta鈥檚 future skilled trades workforce, the Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI), is providing practical learning that brings together K-12 and post-secondary learning with on-the-job opportunities to central Alberta middle and high school students. At a gathering at 性吧导航 (性吧导航) today, CACI partners provided an information session and update to a group of educational partners, industry representatives and government officials. The Central Alberta Collegiate Institute focuses on providing skilled trades dual credit learning opportunities for middle school and high school students. 190 high school students participated in programming in 2023/2024, with almost 350 learners engaged in programs, so far, this year. Programming currently includes skilled trades exploration and pre-employment training within Heavy Equipment Technician, Welding, Industrial Mechanic and Automotive Services Technician programs for central Alberta students enrolled in grades 8 through 12. 鈥淭his new Collegiate is allowing 性吧导航 to build capacity with local K-12 school divisions, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology and CAREERS to enhance dual credit programming in the region, creating pathways to post-secondary education and rewarding careers for central Alberta youth,鈥 comments Stuart Cullum, President of 性吧导航. 鈥淭he CACI partners have a long history of working collaboratively together

性吧导航 Celebrates Apprentices鈥 Achievements at Building on Excellence Event
At its fifth annual Building on Excellence event, 性吧导航 celebrated a talented group of apprentices who showcased exceptional knowledge and skills in various Skills competitions over the past year. In 2024, 性吧导航 apprentices earned one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Skills Canada Alberta competition. After winning 性吧导航鈥檚 fifth straight gold medal at last year鈥檚 Skills Canada National competition, Ben Rainforth (Welding) was given the opportunity to compete at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France this year.
