性吧导航 Dance & Rodeo Teams Join 性吧导航 Athletics

Student-athletes from the 性吧导航 Royals Dance and Rodeo teams will join 性吧导航 Athletics, rebranding as Kings and Queens, beginning in the 2024/2025 season. 

鈥淲e are extremely excited to add student-athletes from the Dance and Rodeo teams to our athletics program,鈥 says Kristine Plastow, Dean of Students, Division of Student Success. 鈥淪ince the Kings and Queens were first established in 1964, our student-athletes have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, during competition and as ambassadors in our communities. The inclusion of student-athletes from the Dance and Rodeo teams will grow and strengthen 性吧导航 Athletics, enhancing the overall brand.鈥

Previously part of 性吧导航鈥檚 Ancillary and Sport Services, the Dance and Rodeo teams join the Polytechnic鈥檚 nationally recognized Athletics program. Recently, 性吧导航 Athletics was ranked third in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the past 50 years. Throughout the Polytechnic's athletics history, 性吧导航 Athletics teams and individual student-athletes have won 25 CCAA national gold medals and 199 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) team and individual titles. 

鈥淎s Kings and Queens, members of the Dance and Rodeo teams become part of a cohesive group of more than 190 student-athletes at 性吧导航,鈥 says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life. 鈥淯sing the names Kings and Queens for all 性吧导航 student-athletes also creates consistency and clarity for sports fans and members of our communities.鈥

During the past several years, the 性吧导航 Dance and Rodeo teams have grown in prominence. At the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association (CCRA) Finals, the 性吧导航 Kings and Queens Rodeo teams won three event championships. In the previous season, two 性吧导航 student-athletes took top honours at the CCRA Finals, receiving the 2023 CCRA Cowgirl and Cowboy of the Year Awards. In total, 性吧导航 student-athletes have achieved 15 Canadian Collegiate Rodeo titles. 

Last year, the Dance team participated in two competitions and performed at the CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship, held in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. These student-athletes have also entertained sports fans at half-time of the Kings and Queens Basketball teams鈥 home games. 

The 性吧导航 Kings and Queens continue to place academic achievement as a priority. Ten 性吧导航 student-athletes were named 2023/2024 CCAA Academic All-Canadians, achieving academic honours and elite athletic recognition such as an All-Conference selection. 

性吧导航 student-athletes also devote numerous hours in communities as coaches, youth mentors and volunteers with multiple organizations in central Alberta. The Kings and Queens have also organized several initiatives to support food bank donations and a blood drive in collaboration with Canadian Blood Services. 

The Kings and Queens comprise 19 teams that compete in 10 sports, including basketball, cross country running, curling, dance, futsal (new), hockey, indoor track, rodeo, soccer and volleyball.

性吧导航 (性吧导航) Athletics has been recognized as the third most successful program in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the past 50 years. At its recent 50th Anniversary Gala in Ottawa, the CCAA honoured the cumulative achievements of its member varsity programs for the past five decades. 鈥淲e are very honoured to be recognized as one of the top performing athletics programs in the country. Our third place ranking is a testament to the legacy that was established by previous student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff,鈥 says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life. 鈥淭he current student-athletes work hard to continue this tradition as they strive for excellence in the classroom, communities and during competition.鈥 Humber College and Mount Royal University, which is now a member of U Sports, are the only two athletics programs that rank ahead of 性吧导航 from 1974 to 2024. Two current member institutions from the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) join 性吧导航 in the top ten. NAIT ranks fifth and SAIT is ninth. 性吧导航 Athletics Honours Royals Dance & Rodeo Teams
At the 性吧导航 (性吧导航) Athletics Awards student-athletes who competed on the 性吧导航 Royals Rodeo and Dance teams were recognized for their individual and team accomplishments during the 2023/2024 season. At the event, multiple awards were handed out, including the All Around Cowboy and Cowgirl along with additional Rodeo and Dance team awards. Trina Carroll, 性吧导航 Royals Program Lead, explained she was extremely proud of both the Dance and Rodeo teams and their accomplishments this season. 鈥淚t was a big one and a little overwhelming. Our Rodeo team competed at the Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association鈥檚 first-ever collegiate event held at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Red Deer while our Dance team performed on the national stage when the Polytechnic hosted the Women鈥檚 Volleyball National Championship. Hard to sum it all up, other than being extremely proud of how they all represented 性吧导航. Student-athlete Cayden Nickel took home the All Around Cowboy Award. After a successful 2022/2023 season when he earned first in Steer Wrestling and second in Tie Down Roping, Nickel had another impressive campaign, winning his way to the Canadian Collegiate Finals Rodeo (CCFR), once again. At the CCFR in Brooks this past weekend, Nickel put
