性吧导航 hosts Third Annual Research Showcase

性吧导航 (性吧导航) continues to recognize and celebrate its culture of creative activity and research by hosting the Third Annual Research Showcase.

鈥淭he Research Showcase demonstrated the innovative research that is initiated by students, faculty and staff from a variety of disciplines across our institution, providing significant impact for learners, 性吧导航 and communities across Alberta,鈥 says Lindsay Engel, Vice President, Academic and Student Experience. 鈥淎s a polytechnic institution, we are committed to growing our scholarly and applied research capacity to solve real-world challenges.鈥

This year, the Polytechnic鈥檚 Research Showcase featured 53 poster displays and presentations about diverse subjects. Two concurrent sessions, which included topics in science, technology, humanities and skilled trades, enhanced the experiences of attendees. 

Dr. Anomi Bearden, 性吧导航 Psychology instructor, was the keynote speaker. She shared her research about how applying social and positive psychology promotes well-being. Dr. Bearden also spoke about the benefits of collaborative applied research for a range of partners, which includes promoting work-integrated learning and future opportunities for students.

鈥溞园傻己's Research Showcase is invaluable to students, providing opportunities to explore many paths of academia. It allows students to enhance their communication skills as they present their findings to an engaged audience,鈥 says Amanda Brouwer, Vice President Academic, Students鈥 Association of 性吧导航. 

鈥淭he Research Showcase also provides opportunities to network with other researchers and professionals, which can lead to future collaborations or job opportunities. A showcase like this will help students to stand out in their academic and professional careers.鈥 

The scholarly activity and research that were presented at the Research Showcase helps to address societal and industrial challenges while advancing the priorities of Alberta. Many projects involved interdisciplinary collaboration between students, faculty and partners and included actionable steps on 性吧导航鈥檚 campuses and in communities.

As an institution, 性吧导航 has four areas of focus, including Manufacturing and Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare and Health Technology, Energy Innovation and Social Innovation.

性吧导航 is proud to be ranked 38th on Canada鈥檚 Top 50 Research Colleges 2022 list by Research Infosource Inc. The ranking highlights that in 2021, 性吧导航 attracted $2.6 million in applied research investment. In 2022, 73 projects were initiated in the CIM-TAC, supporting innovation and economic prosperity across Alberta for 57 companies. Staff conducted more than 1,300 engagements with industry representatives. The CIM-TAC currently houses $6.6 million in advanced manufacturing equipment. As a key driver of economic and social prosperity in the province, the Polytechnic is proposing a $16 million expansion to the CIM-TAC. 性吧导航 continues partnership with universities to accelerate applied research
性吧导航 (性吧导航) faculty and staff will grow their impact through applied research, thanks to a $27.3 Million investment by the Government of Alberta to post-secondary institutions through the Major Innovation Fund ( MIF). 性吧导航 is one of the post-secondary institutions that will continue to collaborate with the Universities of Alberta and Calgary during the next four years to accelerate research and commercialization because of the MIF funding. 性吧导航 will receive $800,000 from the MIF funding within three projects. 鈥淲e鈥檙e enthusiastic and eager to be collaborating with other post-secondary institutions to solve industry challenges in the medical devices, clean energy, and space and defense sectors,鈥 says Dr. Tonya Wolfe, Associate Vice President of Applied Research. 鈥淥ur team is focused on applying the state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on experience we have at 性吧导航 to commercialize new technologies in order to strengthen and diversify the economy.
